Firstly, before talking about how to place a curtain rod, let’s discuss about the types of curtain rods available in the market. There are 5 types of curtain rods:

  • Decorative Curtain Rod
  • Double Curtain Rod
  • Tension Curtain Rod
  • Motorized Curtain Rod
  • Traverse Curtain Rod

After deciding what type of curtains that suits your needs and budget, it is time to install it but do check these key points when installing curtain rods.

  1. Measure and Mark: Measure the width of your window and mark where you want the brackets to go. Ideally, the rod should extend 3-6 inches beyond the window frame on each side to allow the curtains to fully cover the window when closed.
  2. Install Brackets: Use a level to ensure the brackets are even. Drill holes and install the brackets at the marked spots.
  3. Adjust the Rod Length: If you have a telescoping rod, adjust it to the desired length. For spring tension rods, twist the ends to expand or contract the rod to fit inside the window frame.
  4. Hang the Curtains: Slide the curtains onto the rod and place the rod onto the brackets. Ensure the curtains hang evenly and adjust as needed.
